Meet Pastor Lillian Hines
Pastor Lillian Hines was born, raised and received her formal education in San Francisco, California. She is the daughter of two servant leaders and has been in the church since she was six weeks old, serving in one capacity or another since accepting Christ at seven years old, where she immediately began serving on the youth usher board. Pastor Lillian is a proud HBCU alumna of Texas Southern University, located in Houston, TX, where she earned a bachelor’s in Administration of Justice and Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, NJ. She graduated with her Master of Divinity and was the recipient of the John Alan Swink Preaching Award. Lillian is in her third year at New Brunswick Theological Seminary, where she is working on her Doctor in Ministry with a concentration in Pastoral Counseling and Theology. Her interests intersect at the crossroads of trauma, pastoral counseling, and wholeness. Pastor Lillian has a hybrid faith background, which has enriched her pastoral leadership and influenced how she leads, loves and lives. Pastor Lillian is a Diamond Life Member in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a trustee on the Hall Education Fund, a prison chaplain and honored to have been chosen as the pastor to lead First Reformed Church with grace, love and wisdom.

Meet Music Director Ben Berman
Benjamin T. Berman has been leading the music ministry at First Reformed Church since 2009. Benjamin holds a BM and MM in Voice Performance from Rutgers University and is Music Director of the Hub City Opera and Dance Company and of the Highland Park Community Chorus. A variety of pursuits has brought him to teach on the faculty at Rutgers Community Arts, play harpsichord with period instrument ensemble La Fiocco, and serve as accompanist at his alma mater: for the Rutgers Queens Chorale. Benjamin enjoys an active singing career in the region, performing with Opera Philadelphia, West Jersey Chamber Music Society, Makhelat Hamercaz, Choral Arts Society, and Vocala, and was honored to perform in the Czech Republic in 2018. At FRC, he directs the adult choir, the bell choir, and the joint children’s choir, in addition to his responsibilities as the head of the Downtown Lunchtime Recital Series. In addition, he enjoys being a member of our weekly Bible study group, serving lunch to our guests at recitals and various other events, and taking our choirs out to nursing homes and hospitals to sing for residents. Ben is a member of AGMA, ACDA, NATS, and NYSTA.
Meet Operations Manager Dave Zuidema
Dave holds a BA in Political Science from Calvin University, and served for seven years on the staff of U.S. Congresswomen Marge Roukema, six as her District Administrator. He left politics to serve as Communications Manager for NJ Conservation Foundation, a leading open space preservation organization.
Dave later transitioned to a freelance role in order to serve as primary caregiver to his three children. In that capacity he served a small group of nonprofit clients in a variety of organizational, administrative, communications and development roles. Returning to the traditional workforce several years later, Dave joined PathStone as manager of an employment and training program for low-income senior citizens in several northern New Jersey counties. Most recently, Dave served as Executive Director of the Holland Christian Home Foundation, the development branch of a small, nonprofit continuing care retirement community in his native Passaic County.
In his years working freelance, Dave gained experience with several church/non-profit relationships, and has also served his local church as catechism teacher, deacon chairman and outreach ministry team leader.

The consistory governs the life and ministry of a congregation. It is made up of those who hold three offices in the church: minister, elder, and deacon.
